INTRODUCTION
• The “Battle of Hastings” was fought on 14th
october, 1066 A.D. between the Norman-
french army of William,The Duke of Normandy
and Harold Godwinson , the son of Earl of
Wessex, as the King of England . It took place
approximately 7 miles northwest of Hastings,
East Wessex and which ended in a decisive
norman victory.
Who were Normans ?
Normans were the descendants of the viking
warrior Rollo and his people ,who signed the
treaty of St Clair-Sur-Epte with the French king
Charles and started living on the bank of Seine
river.They adopted french language
,customs,marriage and abandoned sea-
roving.Within generations ,they were known as
the people of the land of Nordmanni or
Northmen.But they still displayed courage and
fearlessness,and spread terror wherever they
went.

PREVIOUS CONDITONS :-
When Edward,The Confesser died without an
heir,Harold Godwinson was appointed as king by
will of Edward as his successor.But William
considered himself rightfully the next king of
England basing his claim on a promise by Edward
the confessor in the early 1050s.As the chances
of attack of Norwegian king Magnus and his son
Harald Hardrada was valid,Harold Godwinson
appointed himself as king and killed Hardrada in
battle.As he got the news of Norman army
landing at Pevensy ,he was compelled to march
south with his wickened army to face
William,Duke of Normandy.
MOVEMENTS OF THE BATTLE
The battle begun at the morning and the english
were advancing fast and getting wins.But as
William compelled them to get out of their
vantage point of hill-position,English started
to looose men fast.As a result,Normans were
victorious by the Nightfall and it happened
with Harold’s fall,a norman arrow struck him
in the eye.
