ALPINE FORESTS
 Found in Northern areas
(Dir, Chitral, Kohistan etc.)
 Trees have stunted
growth due to low
temperature and sunlight
 Upward branches to
attain maximum sunlight
 Essential to obtain fuel
wood only
CONIFEROUS FORESTS
 Found in Northern
areas and Hill stations
(Murree, Swat, etc.)
 Evergreen trees
 Conical in shape
 Important source of
timber, habitat for
wildlife, promotes
tourism.
TROPICAL THORN FORESTS
 Found throughout Indus
plains and southern and
western Balochistan
 Short trees (6 – 10
meters) with deep roots
 Scanty vegetation
 Used mainly for
firewood
RIVERAIN FORESTS
 Found near River Indus
and its tributaries
 Linear plantation along
river banks
 Provide a lot of
commercial wood
species
IRRIGATED FORESTS
 Changa Manga, Wan
Bachran in Thal area,
Chicha Watni in the Sahiwal
district and Guddu barrages
and Ghulam Mohammad
district
 Economically important
species are planted in large
blocks
 Important sources of timber
and firewood
MANGROVE FORESTS
 Found in the coastal areas
of Sindh and Balochistan
 Short trees with general
height of 3 meters
 Important for firewood,
timber, provide habitat for
shrimp and fish, protect
coastline from erosion, act
as barrier against tsunamis

AFFORESTATION
 What is Afforestation?
 Afforestation is the establishment of a forest or stand of
trees in an area where there was no previous tree cover.
 For example: BTTAP, Shandong Ecological Afforestation
Project
 What is BTTAP?
 The BTTAP (Billion Tree Tsunami Afforestation Project) was
launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in
2014 as an emergency response to global warming
caused by climatic changes.
