DIETS MODIFIED IN CONSISTENCY
A modified consistency diet involves the
consumption of foods that have undergone
a change in consistency.
Two Types:
1. Diet without solid
2. Diet with solid
Diet without Solids
Liquid Diet – consist of a variety
of foods that are liquid or
liquefy at room temperature.
BLAND DIET
A bland diet is a diet
consisting of foods that
are generally soft, low
in dietary fiber, cooked
rather than raw, and
not spicy.
Liquid diets are of two types namely:

1. Clear fluid diet


- usually used for 1 to 2 days
- after that a more liberal liquid diet is
given
2. Full Fluid Diet
- this diet includes all foods which are
liquid at room temperature
- it is free from cellulose and irritating
condiments
- six or more feedings can be given
daily
Diet with Solids
Soft and Low Fiber Diets
- includes both liquid and solid foods which
contain restricted amount of indigestible
carbohydrates and no tough connective
tissue
Low Residue Diet
- made up of foods which can be
completely absorbed
- foods high in fiber should be omitted
- this diet provides insufficient
minerals and vitamins
High Fiber Diet
- dietary function plays a significant
role in colonic function
- fiber is increased to 15-20 gms daily
- fluid intake is also increased
