Visine (tetrahydrozoline Drew Zoblisien and

Chase Henderson
hydrochloride)
Active ingredient -
tetrahydrozoline
hydrochloride

Formula - C13H17ClN2
Structure of the active ingredient is to the left
This ingredient is used to remove the redness in the eyes of
people with allergies. It is a sympathomimetic amine and
narrows the blood vessels in the eye.
C = 12.011 (13) = 156.143g/mol
H = 1 (17) = 17g/mol
Cl = 35.45 (1) = 35.45g/mol
N = 14.01 (2) = 28.02g/mol

156.143g/mol + 17g/mol + 35.45g/mol + 28.02g/mol = 236.613g/mol

Molar Mass
1.5% w/v = 1.5/100mL
350 x 0.015 = 5.25mL
1.5%w/v = 5.25/350mL
5.25 Grams of Tetrahydrozoline
Hydrochloride

Task #4
1.6g(1mol/236.613g)(6.022E23 at Visine/ 1 mol)= 4.0721E21
Atoms of Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride

Task #5
25gN(1mol N/14gN)(1mol Tetrahydrozoline
Hydrochloride/2mol N)(6.022E23/1mol
Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride) = 5.3767E23 atoms
of Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride

Task #6
16000mL(1/2000) = 8mL of stock solution
8mL(2/500) = 0.032mL of stock solution required to
prepare 16 liters of 1:2000 w/v solution.

Task #7
Clarks Rule: (w/150) x (Adult Dose)
(55/150) x (375) = 137.5mg

Task #8
2 – 200mg TID = 6 pills and =1200mg
8.75mol(236.613g Tetrahydrozoline
Hydrochloride/1mol) = 2070.363g
(2070.363g/1.2g) = 1,725.303 Days

Task #9
(40days/8days) = 5 half life sequences
1. (100/2) = 50 2. (50/2) = 25 3. (25/2) = 12.5 4.
(12.5/2) = 6.25 5. (6.25/2) = 3.125g Tetrahydrozoline
Hydrochloride

Biography – Alexander Fleming

Life Span: August 6th, 1881 – March 11th, 1955

Hometown: Darvel, Scotland.
Education: St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School and
Kilmarnock Academy.
Accomplishments: Discovered Penicillin, Won a Nobel
prize ”for the discovery of penicillin and its curative effect
in various infectious diseases”(Nobel Media, 11/6),
started the antibiotic revolution.
Fun Facts: The discovery of penicillin was an accident.
Alexander had left the antibiotic out and it had killed
some bacteria in his petri dishes.
Education and/or Training Required
Must have an undergraduate degree in Pre-Pharmacy,
Biology, or Chemistry.
Must go to Pharmacy school. To get in you must complete
the undergrad above and have at least a 3.0 GPA
Must maintain license with 15-30 hours of post school
Career Journal education every 2 years to maintain license

- Pharmacist Responsibilities and Daily Activities

Must maintain and distribute medicines to the public. You
work with doctors or pharmaceutical companies to
authorize the distribution. They must also make sure and
calculate proper doses for patients. You work with other
pharmacists to also dispense specialized medication at
specific practices such as dermatologist or a cancer
specialist.
Career Outlook and Earning Potential
Career Outlook: 0% with 314,300 jobs total in 2018. 0% growth for the
next 10 years.
Income: Median salary for Pharmacists are $126,120 per year with an
hourly wage at $60.64.
Self Reflection
Career Journal Chase and I both discussed the possibility of this being a future career.
We both think that this would not be an optimal career for multiple

– Pharmacist reasons. For the about the same price of school, you can go to a
medical school and make over 6 times this salary if you become
something like an anesthesiologist. It also takes a similar amount of
Continued time to complete school. There is also 0% growth in the job and as of
2018, the career shrunk by 100 jobs exactly according to the Bureau of
Labor Statistics. This means that the job scene is going to be more
competitive. In the end, this is not a bad job to have, but there are
more favorable medical professions that make more and are growing
more than a pharmacist.
