Spur Gear
• Spur gear of straight-cut gears are the simplest type of gear.
• The edge of each tooth is straight and aligned parallel to the axis of rotation.
• These gears can be meshed together correctly only of they are fitted t parallel shafts
Helical gear
This is a cylindrical shaped gear with helicoid teeth. There are widely used in
industry.
Hence fir the same width, their teeth are longer than spur gears and have
higher load carrying capacity
Hence for the same width, their teeth are longger than spur gears and have
higher load carrying capacity.
They are recommended for very high speeds and loads.
Rack Gear
A rack and pinion is a type of linear actuator that comprises a pair of gears
which convert rotational motion into linear motion.
A circular gear called “the pinion” engages teeth on a linear “gear” bar called
the rack.
Rack and pinion provides a less efficient mechanical advantage than other
mechanisms such as recirculating ball, but less backlash and greater feedback
Example application : automatic house gate
Internal Gear
This is cylindrical shaped gear but with the teeth inside the circular ring.
Internal gears are often used in planetary gear system.
Straight Bevel Gear
A bevel gear is shaped like aa right circular cone with most of its tip cut off.
When two bevel gears mesh, their imaginary vertices must occupy the same
point.
The angle between the shaft can be anything except zero or 180 degrees.
