Title: ETP Sensitization
Purpose of Effluent Treatment
Plant (ETP)

• Save Discharge cost

• Reduce COD level

• Reuse of final water

SECTION OF EFFLUENT PLANT
ANAEROBIC DIGESTION

• Substrate which consist of soluble and insoluble organic matter is microbiologically

converted to Methane and CO2 gas

• Treatment is done to remove about 90perc of total effluent COD and BOD5 to produce
gas with about 85perc methane content.

• Plant/section doesn’t require oxygen

SECTION OF EFFLUENT PLANT
SBRs

• Sufficient air is needed in this section to sustain bacteria population.

• After sbr several process period effluent goes to the final tank for discharge or recycled back for
other uses

• Thickening sludge pressed in the dewatering plant ready for disposal

• Further tertiary treatment happening after SBR.

CONDITION NEEDED FOR ETP

IN HOUSE MANAGEMENT

• Yeast and trubbs

Don’t dump yeast and trubbs in the drainage, as is a dangerous for the plant

• Kieselghur
Don’t dump into the drainage, it has a tendency of carrying over the active bacteria from the AD
and also hinder the bacterial activities.

• Fatty oil and grease (FOG)

Avoiding dumping oil and grease during the changing machine parts or in whatever cases

• Acid or Caustic
These must be avoided or blend slowly to ETP, sometimes increases the cost of neutralizing
chemicals.

• Spent grains.
Don’t dump spent grains to the ETP, its has a tendency of carrying over the active bacteria from
the AD,
IN HOUSE MANAGEMENT
• Beer dumps
This is detrimental for biological activities as it has high COD. Inform ETP supervisor before
dumping.

• Spills
Inform ETP supervisor of accidental spills

• High temperature
Undesirable to ETP as may kill the bacteria
