Enterprise-class clod offering

• Moving to the cloud gets more complex as your

organization grows in size.
• Organization should follow the sorts of
guidelines
(i.e)try out new things , figure out what to
move, and then move over time

MS Exchange
 Enterprise-class applications like exchange server can be
challenging , time consuming and costly for IT organizations to
support. And thus, businesses are increasingly turning to hosted
services as an alternative. By essentially “renting” access to third-
party hosted applications, businesses alleviate the problems
application licensing, deployment and maintenance present.
 Microsoft’s Office 365 suite includes Exchange Online, which
is a hosted messaging application that provides organizations with
access to the full-featured version of Exchange Server. It includes
access to email, calendars, contacts and tasks for any endpoint
device.

VMotion
• VMware VMotion enables the live migration of running virtual
machines from one physical server to another with zero downtime,
continuous service availability, and complete transaction integrity. It
is transparent to users.
VMotion lets you:
• Automatically optimize and allocate entire pools of resources for
maximum hardware utilization and availability.
• Perform hardware maintenance without any scheduled downtime.
• Proactively migrate virtual machines away from failing or
underperforming servers.

4
VMotion Features
• Performs migration with no downtime , undectable by users

• Optimize virtual machine in resource pools

• Performs hardware maintenance without downtime.

• Move virtual machines from poorly performing or failing

physical servers on to new machines

VMware vCenter Converter
• VMware vCenter Converter is VMware's free product that
converts physical machines to virtual machines.

• It allows you to take that first big step into virtualization

creating a virtual machine from a physical machine.
Decoupling a physical machine from its hardware limitations and
turning it into a virtual machine disk file (VMDK), with all its
inherent advantages, is one of the most exciting parts of the entire
virtualization process.

Hyper-V line migration
• Hyper-V live migration is a Microsoft Hyper-V feature that allows
administrators to move virtual machines (VMs) between clustered
hosts without noticeable service interruption.

• Hyper-V live migration was first released in Windows Server 2008

R2. It received updates in Windows Server 2012 R2.

7
How Live Migration Works

• Live migration takes place between two Hyper-V hosts.

Essentially, the VM memory is copied between Hyper-V hosts.
After the memory is copied, the VM on the new host can
access its virtual hard disk (VHD) files and continue to run.

• When you initiate a live migration, the following steps occur:

• 1. A new VM configuration file is created on the target
server.
• 2. The source VM’s initial memory state is copied to the
target.
• 3. Changed memory pages on the source VM are tagged
and copied to the target.

8
• 4. This process continues until the number of changed
pages is small.
• 5. The VM is paused on the source node.
• 6. The final memory state is copied from the source VM to
the target.
• 7. The VM is resumed on the target.
• 8. An Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is issued to
update the network routing tables.
