The superstructure is generally constructed span-by-span.

Objectives for construction methodology for Metro projects:

• Accelerated construction – precast structural members
• Reduced environmental pollution
• Minimum disturbance to traffic
• Durability of structural components
• High quality of finishes and close tolerances
• Aesthetic quality
Metro viaducts
• Elevated viaducts for metro structures are
characterized by Precast Segmental Box
Girder which are Epoxy Jointed and
Internally Prestressed, generally supported
on single piers on the central verge of the
roadway.

using u- girder located on central verge of the road
• Launching of segments has been carried out using overhead and underslung launching girders

Overhead Launching Girder Underslung Launching Girder

• Segment sections that can be used - regular box girder section, U-shaped girder for 2 tracks ,I-
girder, twin U-girder

• Advantage of this U-shaped section

- the side webs work as parapet, thereby saving of material
- truncated top flange acts as emergency evacuation walkway.
- At the same time, the rail level comes down, as the tracks are supported over the
bottom slab, leading to economical designs.
