THE 5 STAGE TEAM DEVELOPMENT MODEL

• FORMING: Orientation to project


 Small team of about 10 or 12 piping draftsmen and two group leaders
 Appointing Sudhakar Joshi as Group Leader by motivating him
 Sudhakar resigned as joint secretary of the union to avoid personal conflict of interest
 Finalizing project team members
• STORMING: Emotional response to the demands of the project
 Hitesh explained the nature of the project
 2 important things- drawings must be free from errors and completing project within deadline
 Overtime of 2-3hrs every working day
• NORMING: Open exchange of relevant information
 10-12 drafting tables setup to closely work together and know each other
 Kumaram working after office on his son’s birthday
 Hitesh appreciating and gifting for birthday
 Helping each other in work and prioritizing group objectives and avoiding conflicts
• PERFORMING: Emergence of solution
 Sudhakar and Pushpakant were given the opportunity to present Mid-Term Review
 Hitesh performing hard to show his own personal agenda for the group’s greater objectives
• ADJOURNING: Dissolution of the group
 Highly appreciated for the effort by all the members, Hitesh got promoted
 Union agreement was accepted

DEVELOPMENT

• Members volunteer to serve on the project team- Kumaram
• Members serve on the project from beginning to end
• Members are assigned to the project full time
• Members are part of the organization culture that fosters cooperation and
trust-
• Members solely report to the project manager- Pushpakant, Geeta
• The project involves a compelling objective
• Members are located within conversational distance of each other-
