is
Bartending?
Bartending is the process
of preparing, mixing and
concocting, and serving of
drinks, particularly alcoholic
beverages.

There are various types of glassware of different
shapes and sizes all serving their own purpose. Learning
which drinks belong to which glass is beneficial to both you
and your customers, which in turn reflects back on you and
your establishment.
Insure all glassware is cleaned spotless prior to
serving it to your customers. Wash glasses with warm water
and a small amount of detergent, but not soap. Rinse them
afterwards with fresh, cold water and polish them with a
suitable cloth. Hold glasses by the base or stem of the glass
to avoid fingerprints.
Alcoholic Beverages
An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol
(commonly called alcohol). Alcoholic beverages
are divided into three general classes: beers,
wines, and liquors. Alcoholic beverages are
fermented commonly from the sugars in fruits,
berries, grains, which may be distilled, to reduce
the original watery liquid to a liquid of much greater
alcoholic strength.
Wines
Wine is an alcoholic beverage, typically made of fermented grape juice.

Beer is an alcoholic drink fermented from starch material
commonly barley malt, often with hops or some other substance to
impart a bitter flavor

Liquor is an alcoholic beverage that is distilled rather than fermented.

Brandy
Brandy is a spirit

distilling wine, the
wine having first
been produced by
fermenting grapes.
Rum
Rum is a distilled
alcoholic beverage made
from sugarcane by-
products such as
molasses and sugarcane
juice by a process of
fermentation and
distillation.
Whisky
Whisky is a type
of distilled
alcoholic
beverage made
from fermented
grain mash.
Vodka
Vodka is a distilled
liquor with a high
proof. It is made
from fermented
substances like
grain and potatoes.
Gin
Gin is strong
liquor flavored
with juniper
berries.
Cordials
Cordials are
strong highly
flavored sweet
liquor usually
drunk after a
meal.

To extract the most flavor from certain fresh ingredients such as fruit or mint
garnishes, you should crush the ingredient with the muddler on the back end of
your bar spoon, or with a pestle.
