DESCRIBE ENDANGERED AND
ENDEMIC SPECIES OF INDIA
ENDEMIC SPECIES
• Endemic species are those plants and animals that
exist only in one geographical region. Species can
be endemic to large or small areas of the world.
Some may be endemic to the particular continent;
some are endemic to a part of a continent, and
others to a single island.
ENDANGERED SPECIES
• An endangered species is an animal or plant that's
considered at risk of extinction. A species can be
listed as endangered at the state, federal, and
international level. On the federal level,
the endangered species list is managed under
the Endangered Species Act.
WHY INDIA IS KNOWN AS MEGA
BIODIVERSITY ?
• A mega-diverse country is one that harbors the
majority of the Earth's species and is therefore
considered extremely bio diverse.
• India is rich in biodiversity from north to south
and from east to west. India contains many species
that world's gone country have.
• It has 14 major basins through which drain
numerous rivers.
DESCRIBE THE FOLLOWING THREADS
TO BIODIVERSITY :
[A] HABITATE LOSS
• Habitat destruction occurs when
natural habitats are no longer able to support the
species present, resulting in the displacement
or destruction of its biodiversity. Examples include
harvesting fossil fuels, deforestation, dredging
rivers, bottom trawling, urbanization, filling in
wetlands and mowing fields.

[B] POACHING OF WILDLIFE

• "Animal poaching" is when an animal is killed
illegally. It usually occurs when an animal possesses
something that is considered valuable (i.e. the
animal's fur or ivory). Many countries believe that
the rhino horn is an important ingredient for many
medicines.
[C] MAN AND WILDLIFE CONFLICTS
• Human–wildlife conflict is defined by the World
Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as "any interaction
between humans and wildlife that results in
negative impacts on human social, economic or
cultural life, on the conservation
of wildlife populations, or on the environment.

[C] BIOLOGICAL INVATION

• Biological invasions are a major force of change,
affecting many dimensions of life on
Earth. Invasions result when species colonize new
geographic regions, which are disjunction (isolated)
from existing populations.

WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND
chemical weapons convention ?
• The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) is an
arms control treaty that outlaws the production,
stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons and their
precursors. ... The Chemical Weapons
Convention prohibits the large-scale use,
development, production, stockpiling and transfer
of chemical weapons.
