• Only when Manas (mind) with thoughts and
the five senses stand still, and when Buddhi
(intellect, power to reason) does not waver,
which they call the highest path
• That is what one calls Yoga, the stillness of the
senses, concentration of the mind, It is not
thoughtless heedless sluggishness,
• Yoga is creation and dissolution.
Yoga is the power that transform lives-
physically, mentally, emotionally,
psychologically and spiritually!

What is the aim of Yoga?
Objective of yoga is-
“to create union between individual
soul and cosmic soul”

• “स्थिरं सुखर्ासिर्् ” (यो.सू.२:४६)

• “सुखासिश्चिश्चत्तिीरवार्ासि श्चियर्ो भवश्चत”

• By rule asana is a stable and comfortable
posture which can be sustained for long
duration
How many?
• Around 84,00,000 postures as described by
Shiva (घे.सं.२/१)
• They are as many in number as there are
numbers of species of living creatures in this
universe (घे.सं.२/१)
• Among them 84 are the best; among which 32
are useful to mankind (घे.सं.२/२)

Swastikasana
• Su – good
• Asti – to be or existence
• Ka – to make
This asana can be prescribed as one that helps
to realize the unity of existence.
• The position of the legs resembles the symbol
of swastika
Type:- sitting posture
• Taken as one of the meditative posture
• Commonly used for meditation
• Provide good stability to the body
• Helps to attain effortlessly for a longer periods
Precautions
• Before you start, clear your bowels and
bladder
• Clean your nostrils and throat of all mucus
• Do warm up exercises
• Should be practiced empty stomach (If already
taken food maintain 3hrs gap)
• Food can be taken 1hr later
• Wear comfortable clothes
• Use thin yoga mat or thick bed sheet for Yoga
• Relax for 10 seconds at least after each asana
• Woman should not practice yoga during
menstruation, pregnancy and post delivery.
• Morning is the best time and it is always
better to practice yoga where there is
abundant clean air.
• Don't do yoga twenty minutes before and
after taking a shower as blood circulation
could speed up after take a shower
• First begin with easy poses and thereafter you
can advance to the tough ones.
Yogic practice shall start with a Prayer
or Prayerful mood to enhance the
benefits of practice

Swastikasana

“जािूवोरन्तरर्् कृत्वा योगी पादतले उभे


ऋजुकायः सर्ासीिः स्वस्िकं तत्प्रचक्षते ”
(घे.सं.२/१३)
Procedure
• Sthiti:- Dandasana
• Step 1 – Spread both legs and keep at a
distance of 1-1.5 ft
• Step 2 – Bend the left leg in knee joint place
the heel at the groin towards the right thigh
• Step 3 – Bend right leg at knee and place its
foot in between the thigh and the calf of the
leg
Procedure
• Step 4 – Place the hand in chin mudra on the
thighs

Position:-
• Keep your spine erect and sight straight
• continue normal breathing for sometime
Procedure

Dandasana
Duration
• Within 10 to 12 days' practice of this asana,
one can maintain this asana for 10 minutes.
• After more practice, this period can be
increased to 2 to 3 hours.
• Sitting for long in this asana alone can make
one experience the pleasure of this asana.
Benefits
• Most suitable for pranayama, meditation,
learning and spiritual activities
• Increases the concentration
• Ailments of knees are cured
• Strengthens the backbone
• Flow of energy in Nadis will increase
• Kundalini power is awakened by the regular
practice
• Auspicious vibrations and feelings will enter
the mind as the name of the Asana is Swastika
which means auspicious

• Varicose vein
• Leg muscle ache
• Fluid retention in the legs

• Person suffering from sciatica and sacral
infections
• Women in menstruation, pregnancy
