The Tense of the original Sentence changes as follows :
Do / does Did Did Had done Will do Would do Am/is Was Are Were Was/were Had been Can Could Must Must/ had to May Might Shall Should Has/have Had done done Will have Would have been doing been doing He says,” I am ill.” Note: Replace the same number 1 with 1 He says , “He will write a story.” (direct) The teacher says ,” The sun rises in the east.”
The teacher says that the sun rises in the east.
The teacher says to us , “Earth is round.” Note :Here are two parts and tense is present so replace the says with tell The teacher tells us that earth is round.
He says to me, “I like you.”
He tells me that he likes me.
You say to me, “ I know her address.”
You tell me that you know her address.
He says to me, “ you have not learnt your lesson.”
He tells me that I have not learnt my lesson. He said , ‘I have won.’
He said that he had won.
She said to me , ‘I like you very much.’
She told me that she liked me very much.
Ali said to Ayesha , ‘ you are stupid.’
Ali told Ayesha that she was stupid.
Ayesha said to her father , ‘I am your doll.’ Ayesha told her father that she was his doll.’
Ali said to me , ‘he is living here now a days.’
Ali told me that he was living there these days. Rules 1.Said Asked 2.Replace comma with if 3. Straight the sentence (means remove the question sign i.e do does etc) 4. 1st form to 2nd form means present to past Note: if there is past outside, change the inner to past otherwise donot change. Or if there is already past tense in reported part change it to past perfect. EXAMPLES
He said to me,’do you know where he lives?’
You know where he lives He asked me if he knew where he lived.
she says ,’Am i not going there?’
I not going there she asks if she is not going there. She said , ” Have you any share in this firm?” She asked if you had any share in that firm.
I said to him ,’ where were you going
yesterday?’ I asked him where he had been going previous day.
