Role of Metabolic

Hormones in Weight Loss

● Cravings
Our metabolic hormones essentially ● How much we need to eat to feel satiated

weight loss because they control: ● Whether new food gets burned for energy
or stored for fat
When we are young and healthy, our metabolic
hormones are balanced making it easy to stay thin and
healthy.
As we age, metabolic hormones become unbalanced and we put on weight much
easier. Things like diet, pollution, and overuse of processed foods cause metabolic
hormones to be unbalanced much faster and to a greater extent.
Leptin is an important metabolic hormone when it comes to weight loss. Leptin
resistance, where the body doesn’t respond to this hormone, is the leading driver in
gaining fat.
The Leptin hormone is produced by your body’s own fat cells. It is also known as the
“satiety hormone” or the “starvation hormone”. It affects an area of your brain known
as they hypothalamus.
Leptin informs your brain when you have enough fat stored so you both stop eating
(are satiated) and to burn calories (controls metabolism). Ultimately, Leptin
determines how mat your body stores.
When you eat, your body fat increases and simultaneously boosts Leptin levels. When
you don’t eat, body fat goes down and causing Leptin levels to drop. You then eat
more and burn less.
Research show that your metabolism switches from using glucose for energy to
burning fat when there is a sustained drop in leptin levels (and insulin levels as well).
Insulin is another metabolic hormone. It works to decrease blood sugar levels by
moving glucose out of the blood and into neighboring cells where it can be used
directly as fuel or stored as body fat.
High levels of insulin prevent fat from being broken down for energy. However, every
time we eat or consume a sugary beverage, it causes insulin levels to spike and
prevents fat from being used for energy.
Research shows that intermittent fasting leads to decreases in both Leptin and Insulin
levels and causes the breakdown of stored fat into ketones for energy use.
Combining regular exercise with Intermittent Fasting is one of the fastest ways to
lower Leptin and Insulin levels naturally and cause the body to burned stored fat for
energy. So long as your Leptin and Insulin levels are elevated, your body will burn
glucose (carbs) instead of stored fat.
1. Metabolic hormones regulate metabolism,
control appetite, and satiation.
2. Elevated Leptin and Insulin levels cause
body to burn glucose for energy instead of

stored fat.
3. Lowering Leptin and Insulin levels
induces body to burn fat
4. Intermittent fasting and regular exercise
lower Leptin and Insulin levels naturally
so body burns stored fats
