DAMP PROOF COURSE

SPECIFICATION
SECTION OF DPC FOR BASEMENT
Mixing proportion-
cement concrete should have a mix of 1:2:4 or 1:1.5:3

MATERIALS-
Coarse aggregate : -clean hard and dense stone chips 12mm down
-to be washed before use.
Sand :- clean,sharp and coarse of average 5mm size
-must be free of dust and dirt and screened before use.
Cement :- must be fresh portland cement .
- must be 50kg bag
DPC :- 1kg DPC for every 50kg bag of cement
Bitumen type :- hot bitumen
BRAND – Imperno

MIXING-
Coarse aggregate: - to be measured by volume with guage boxes
Cement :- cement bags to be or 50kg volume or 0.0347cu.m
PROCEDURE:
• Mixing should be done on a clean solid platform
• Dry coarse aggregate shall be stacked evenly on the platform
• Sand and cement in the specified quantities at first shall be mixed dry till
of uniform color and spread over the stacked coarse aggregate
• The materials should then be turned over once without adding water and
then at least further 3 times adding required quantity of water gradually
and slowly to give uniform concrete
• DPC shall now be mixed with this concrete mixture to make it damp proof

PREPARATION OF BASE
• The base is to be thoroughly cleaned with a steel brush, washed and
wetted before laying the course of concrete
• Wooden straight edges shall be fixed on outer wall having same inner
width as that of the DPC
LAYING
• The DPC should be laid to the full width of the plinth specified in the
drawing
• First a 3mm layer of hot bitumen is laid on the bedding
• Then the DPC should be laid to a thickness of 2.5cm
• Laying should be completed on the same day the surface of concrete
should be roughened and chequered when air is dry so as to form a key
for the joint with the brick wall above
CURING
• DPC shall be kept wet for atleast 7 days after laying
• No brick work should be commenced on the freshly laid DPC unless it has
been floored with water for atleast 48 hours.
