The difference between /f/ and /v/ sounds is
mainly one of strength: /f/ is a strong
consonant, /v/ is a weak one. Moreover, /f/ is
never voiced, but /v/ may be.

/θ/, /ð/ sounds: Interdental
/θ/, /ð/ sounds
• These are friction sounds; while /θ/ is
unvoiced, /ð/ is voiced. The first one is strong,
but the second is weak.
/s/ and /z/ sounds:
The first one is a strong friction sound, but the
second is weak.

/s/ is a strong friction sound but /z/ is weak.
/s/ is voiceless but /z/ may be voiced.
