DEFINITION
The Life Positions refers to the
specific behaviour towards others that
an individual learns on the basis of
certain assumptions made very early
in the life.

Life Positions are basic beliefs about


self and others that are used to
justify decisions and behaviours.
LIFE POSTIONS CAN BE CATEGORISED
AS:
In his article, “Classifications of Positions”,
Eric Berne classifies Life Positions as:

I am okay, You are okay Good Life Position

I am not okay, You are okay Depressive Life Position

I am okay, You are not okay Paranoid/ Arrogant Life Position

I am not okay, You are not okay Futile Life Position


I AM OKAY, YOU’RE

PARANOID/ ARROGANT POSITION


• This is a position of people who feels persecuted and victimized and
hence, persecute and victimize others as well.
• They blame others for their miseries.
• Delinquents and criminals often have this position.
• Take on Paranoid Behavior.
• Doesnot trust anyone and spends most of the time in the CRITICAL
PARENT state.
• Often puts others down
• Happiest when someone’s error is caught and brought to attention.
• Also called the one-up position, suggests getting rid of anger.
