These are made two halves:


o Lower-diameter “body”
that is filled
o Then sealed using a
higher-diameter “cap”

active ingredients that are
dissolved or suspended in
oil
Capsules are made from aqueous solution of
gelling agent like:
 Animal protein, mainly gelatin
 Plant polysaccharides or their derivatives like
carrageenans and modified forms of starch and
cellulose

 Other ingredients can be added to the gelling agent


solution like:
1. Coloring agent
2. Preservatives
3. Disintegrants
4. Lubricant
5. Surface treatment
Components Of Capsule
1. Gelatin
2. Certified dyes
3. Sugar
4. Water– 10 to 15%
5. Sulfur dioxide (0,15%)- prevent
decomposition during manufacture
6. Opaquants/opacifying agent- titanium
oxide
