Steps
• Wash hands.
• Explain procedure to patient
and provide privacy
• Place mackintosh under
patients hips
• Give left lateral position to the
patient with right knee flexed
• Cover patient with bath blanket
only exposing the rectum.
• Place bedpan or commode in
accessible position.
• Assemble enema can ,rectal
tube ,tubing clamp
Purpose
• To maintain medical asepsis
• To win his /her confidence.
• To protect the bed.
• To allow the enema solution to
flow down by gravity along the
natural curve of sigmoid colon
and rectum.
• To make patient feel relieved
• To maintain elimination needs
of patient when he /she is
unable to retain enema.
• To organize nursing activity
