CSC Kickoff – Coverage Phases

MAKE A PLAY ZONE

1. TAKE ON BLOCKS, TIP/SHED, & TACKLE

AVOID ZONE
1. RIP & GET BACK ON STRAIGHTLINE TO THE BALL
2. EVERYONE (MINUS SAF’S) SHOULD BE HERE
WHEN THE BALL IS CAUGHT

SPEED ZONE
1. HAVE A GREAT TIME UP ON YOUR TAKE-OFF (1
YARD OF 40 YDL WHEN BALL IS KICKED)
2. FRONTLINE BATTLES WILL BE WON BY THOSE
WHO CAN GET THROUGH THIS ZONE QUICKLY
AND EFFIECIENTLY
CSC Kickoff – Important Reminders
1. BE ONSIDES – Stay behind the ball until it is kicked.
2. Once the ball has traveled ten yards, it belongs to the team who recovers it. The ball does not have
to go ten yards if the receiving team touches it.
3. If the ball goes into the end zone it is dead.
4. If the ball is kicked high and has not touched the ground, the opponent has the right to field the ball
before it touches the ground. We cannot interfere with the opponent’s opportunity to catch the ball
until it has struck the ground.
5. A member of the receiving team can signal for a fair catch and field the ball without being tackled or
blocked unless he fumbles the ball.
6. All kickoffs must be covered! Do not anticipate an official’s whistle. Go all out until the whistle
blows. RUN TO WHERE THE BALL ENDS.
7. No player of the kicking team can tackle or block an opponent who has completed a fair catch.
