Battle of Midway: June 4-7, 1942
● The Americans were able to break the Japanese code before
the attack, so they were ready for a Japanese assault
● The Japanese lost twice as many aircraft as the Americans and
ten times as many men, including irreplaceable experienced
pilots
● The Japanese also lost 4 aircraft carriers, a significant part of
their naval fleet, which they would be unable to recover from
