CREAM

What are
creams?
Creams:
Creams are semi-solid emulsions which contain
mixtures of oil and water. Their consistency
varies between liquids and solids. Salve (medical
ointment for soothing purpose) and unguent
(soothing products) preparations in earlier days
led to the development of cleansing and cold
creams. With the help of additives such as
emulsifying agents and newer techniques, the
preparation of creams has become easy.

History of cream
• Remains of palettes estimated to be
around 100.000 years old have been
discovered that contain traces of mixed
pigments. These were most likely used
for cave art and body decoration, while
the Neanderthals even used body
adornment to make statements of
personality.
Much later on, the ancient Egyptians
used scented oils and ointments to clean
and soften their skin, protect it from the
sun and wind, and even to mask body
odours. Heavy make-up around the eyes
also became common in ancient Egypt
as a beauty statement, as well as to
offer protection from evil spirits and
improve eye-sight!
•Discoveries show that people living in
present-day Turkey used creams made of
animal fat to soothe the skin as far back as
3000 BC, and the ancient Greeks applied
white toxic lead to their face to obtain the
pale look that was all-the-rage. The Greeks
also painted their lips with a paste made of
iron oxide or ochre mixed with olive oil, and
used kohl for eye shadow and to connect the
eyebrows (the unibrow was considered a
beautiful feature!).
•Still back in ancient times, Chinese
people stained their fingernails with
colours to represent a social class.
Soon after, they began using rouge for
lips and rice powder to make their
faces white. Also the ancient Romans
made their skin paler by using chalk
powder, white lead and a cream made
of animal fat, starch and tin oxide.

Advantages of
Using Cream
Anti-inflammation

• This is a desirable benefit of the skin
creams. They are able to calm
inflammation. This is achieved this by
increasing cell metabolism and blood
circulation. In addition, they promote
uniform skin tone and can keep wrinkles
and acne at bay.
Skin firming
This is a top benefit of the skin
creams. They are able to reverse
effects of aging by rejuvenating the
skin appearance and improving the
skin health. They are meant to tone
your skin.
Reducing wrinkles appearance
It is very difficult to remove all the
wrinkles, but the skin creams are able
to plump out your skin and make it look
more youthful. For many years they
have been known to reduce the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Scar treatment
This is one of the advantages of skin
cream. Scar tissues make the skin
rigid due to their different structures.
The cream is able to increase the
blood flow to the scar tissues. This
minimizes the appearance of the
scar.
Repair sun damage
It is a known fact that excessive exposure to the
sun is dangerous. This is because it dries your
skin and damages the cells. This makes the skin
to appear wrinkly and tough. The creams are
able to stimulate the blood flow and encourage
the growth of better cells. This will result into a
younger facial appearance. It is important to note
that the creams can be used for whole body.
Disadvantages
of using cream
Side Effects:
Different people will experience
different side effects depending
on skin type and the ingredients
found in a specific brightening
cream. These side effects can
range from mild to very serious.

Dangerous Ingredients:
There are specific ingredients that
are considered dangerous. Some of
them include hydroquinone,
ammoniated mercury and alcohol.
These substances can have serious
far-reaching health effects on the
body.
They May Fail to Work:
Sometimes, skin creams may
not work on a certain individual
thus requiring one to go for more
serious measures such as
chemical peeling.
Expensive:
The best and most effective skin
creams are usually expensive.
Not everyone may be able to
afford them. This leads to some
people buying cheap and
dangerous products.
