SOLAR SYSTEM
WHAT IS A SOLAR SYSTEM?

The Solar System is made up of all the planets that

orbit our Sun. In addition to planets, the Solar System
also consists of moons, comets, asteroids, minor
planets, and dust and gas. Everything in the Solar
System orbits or revolves around the Sun. The Sun
contains around 98% of all the material in the Solar
System.
THE PLANETS:

1. Mercury 5. Jupiter
2. Venus 6. Saturn
3. Earth 7. Uranus
4. Mars 8. Neptune
COMETS
A comet is a relatively small
solar system body that orbits
the Sun. When close enough to
the Sun they display a visible
coma (a fuzzy outline or
atmosphere due to solar
radiation) and sometimes a tail.
ASTEROIDS
Asteroids are small solar
system bodies that orbit the
Sun. Made of rock and metal,
they can also contain organic
compounds. Asteroids are
similar to comets but do not
have a visible coma (fuzzy
outline and tail) like comets
do.
METEORS
A meteoroid that burns up
as it passes through the
Earth’s atmosphere is known
as a meteor. If you’ve ever
looked up at the sky at night
and seen a streak of light or
‘shooting star’ what you are
actually seeing is a meteor.
QUIZ TIME!

1.What is our planet?

2.What is the name of the planet called morning or evening
star?
3.What are the rocks floating between mars and Jupiter
called?
4.What is the planet that has a ring on it?
5.What is the largest planet called?
