CONTEXT

OF
TEXT
DEVELOPMENT
Text – instance
of a verbal record.
Text is always
developed with a
certain context.
Its meaning and
interpretation is
affected by a given
set of circumstances.
Context-
everything
around the text.
Context is defined as
social, cultural, political,
historical, and other
related circumstances
that surround the text
and from the terms from
which it can be better
understood and
evaluated.
In discovering a text
context you may ask the
following questions:
1. When was the work
written?
2. What were the
circumstances that
produced it?
3. What issues deal with
it?
Intertext- it is the
shaping of text
meaning by another
text. It recognizes
that the text is
always influenced
by previous texts.
Intertextuality is a
powerful tool in which a
text gain layers of
meaning through
citation and referencing
of other texts . It is a
notion introduced by
Julia Kristeva, 1960.
In this strategy,
the author borrows
a prior text from
another author
and integrates it in
his writing.
Example:
1. He was lying so
obviously, you
could almost see
his nose growing.
Example:
2.It’s hard being
an adult, Peter
Pan had the right
idea.
Example:
3. He’s asking her
to the Prom., it’s
like a happy
version and
Romeo and Juliet.
Parody- a piece of
writing, music, etc.,
that imitates the
style of someone or
something else in
an amusing way
Hypertext- is a
nonlinear way of
showing
information.
