Management
Policies and Duties
Under the preceding sections of this chapter,
administrative or management matters pertaining to
before-game, preparations, during and after-game
responsibilities. Discussed likewise were items relating to
out-of-town games that need attending to.
Most of them will be or have been submitted to the
athletic council of board of control for their approval.
Permanent athletic eligibility, participation, and
scholastic records

The amount of clerical work needed to compile an eligibility

data list maybe lessened considerably through the maintenance of
centralized records.
Athletic Finances and Budget

The importance of sound financial policies accurate

bookkeeping in connection with an athletic program of any
competition cannot be over-emphasized.
General Reports

It is highly desirable that a brief but complete athletic record

for the year be placed in the hands of the superintendent or of the
principal.
This general report for the athletic year should include at least
the financial statement, the results of the games and meets
attended, number of participants, outstanding features of the years
activities, and proposed schedules for the coming year.
Contracting Officials
There are always many officials, there are not enough good
officials. Nothing should be inferred from the statement as
meaning to slur or downgrade games officials. Ninety-nine percent
of them are honest, eager to do a good job at their officiating,
because it id their assurance of being engaged for other officiating
assignments.
Certain officials are better known, handle games in amore
satisfactory manner than others.
Names of officials mutually agreeable to the teams should be
submitted to the athletic council for approval. These officials
should then be contacted and approached about their availability
and the contracts sent to them.
 Schedule and Practices
Schedule making should receive the approval of the local
school athletic council or board of control.
Games should be arranged as early as possible so that contest
alternates could be made for these teams away home. Likewise,
they should be so arranged that they-do not interfere with
school schedules.
A coach who is properly trained in physical education should
understand the elements of fatigue in growing boys or athletes
and the degree of strenuousness by participating in various
sports.
Athletic blanks and forms
 Eachschool uses blanks and forms in the administration of its
athletic program.
 Forms, reports, or accounts of meetings that may need to be
printed should first be run on a draft by the printer, which
should then be corrected and properly edited before being
sent to the printer for final printing. It is much easier and
cheaper to make corrections before the types are set that
after.
