understanding , evaluating , responding , remembering

• Hearing is the physiological process of registering sound
waves

particular sounds we hear as words

responses from the listener

in the conversation either verbally or non-verbally
• Non verbal signals includes different gestures such as nodding ,
making an eye contact or smiling whereas responding verbally
may involve asking a question ,requesting additional
information

forward in the conversation and with any future action

• This is the second stage in the process of listening during
which we attempt to comprehend the meaning of the message
• It is during this stage the message received by the listener can
be misinterpreted
• Asking questions to fill any information gaps is the best way to
understand a message
