and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing such as paper, wood or canvas.

Comes from a French term “coller” meaning to glue

Example of a Collage
Types of Collage
• Decoupage
a type of collage usually
defined as a craft. It is the
process of placing a picture
into an object for
decoration.
Decoupage can involve
adding multiple copies of
the same image, cut and
layered to add apparent
depth. The picture is often
coated with varnish or some
other sealant for protection.
Types of Collage
• Photomontage

photographs, or parts
of photographs.

altogether 3-
Dimensional objects
such as rocks, beads,
buttons, coins or
even soil to form a
new whole or a new
object.
-3D collage is often
one of the infamous
kinds of collage.
Tips in Making a Collage
• Make your collage however you want it to be. Don't be
afraid to experiment with different techniques or
images; you'll learn by doing.
• If the materials on the collage do not stick perfectly
after gluing, you can brush a diluted glue mixture
(about 3 parts water to 1 part glue) over the whole
collage once it is finished to seal the piece.
• Be creative!
• You can also combine digital and paper image editing
by printing edited images to include in a paper or
other style of collage.
