OF PSYCHOLOGY
PLATO
ARISTOTLE
• A man can be understood by his functions
• A man functions to grow, to feel, to move and most
importantly , to reason
• If a person simply eats and copulates without thinking,
he or she lives like an animal and is not completely a
human being
CONFUCIUS
• Envisioned the superior man to have the following
virtues:
-Humanness
-Righteousness
-Proper Rite
-Knowledge
-Integrity
THE CORE TENETS OF
HINDUISM AND BUDDHISM
• Self awareness for a method of enlightenment
• Conscious mind is related to Atman, the
personal self
• Unconcious mind is related to Bruhman, the
impersonal self

PERSONALITIES
IN PSYCHOLOGY
Hippocrates (460-377 BCE)

foundation of personality: sanguine
(cheerful and active), melancholic (sad),
choleric (angry and aggressive), and

Imam-Razi (850-925 CE)
-was an Islamic philosopher who
theorized that sentimental attachment to
material objects could be could be a
cause of mental illness when the object is
lost or the object elevates the said object
to something more important than is
necessary. In doing so, the person will
have a tendency to neglect God and the
people around him or her.
Imam-Ghazali (1058-1111 CE)
- He believed that the self is essence
of man and the core from the
personality arises.There are six powers
of the self: Anger, impulse,
apprehension, intellect, appetite and
will are the ideas that he developed.
He use the contradictory treatment to
cure patients.
René Descartes (1596-1650)
- was a french philosopher,
mathematician and scientist who
tjeorized tje dualism of the body and

CONTROLLED EXPERIMENTS
Controlled experiments in pychological rescarch
have the same principles as those donein market
research, social rescarch, and even scicntific
research. All uncontrolled experimentinvolve two
groups being researched upon the eperimental group
and the control group. Inmost cases, the
experimental group is the one given the stimuli
being tested while the cotrolgroup is not given the
stimuli.
QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIE
PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH
Quatitative peychological research uses mathematical models.
formulas, and statisticsto establish conclusions based on
psychological patterns. It is an empirical approach to thestudy of
psychology as it gathers data to verify psychological hypothesisOn
the other hand, qualitative psychological research is a method that
aims to deriveat conclusicons through a naturalistic approach. The
naturalisic approach involves researchwithout the use of statistical
analysis or the use of laboratory settings. Instead, it allowsevents to
occur within their natural setting.
COMPUTER SIMULATION
Computer simulations uses models to determine
cognitive functions and performance, emotions, human
attributes and language. Comouter models are used in
determining probabilities and formulating
representations of different systems.
ANIMAL STUDIES
Animal stutdies, testing, or research is
commonly used by behavioral, cognitive and
biological psychologists.This method used in
psychological research focuses on animal
behavior and cognition.
CURRENT
APPLICATIONS
OF PSYCHOLOGY
TESTING
- Psychological tests aims to measure the
respondent's perdonalit, traits, behavior,
beliefs,or to determine if he or she has
some form of psychological problem
HEALTH CARE
- Mental health care is provided to
individuals with personality
disorders, mental disorders, or
emotional problems that are severe
enough to affect the way they
function in life and in society
Mental Health, Well-being,
and Social Change
- Psychologists have an array of roles in the area of
public health. They can educate patients by providing
instructions on how to cope with illness or how to
maintain a healthy lifestyle. They are also able to
provide new knowledge on various social issues by
