Benefits of Mining

• Economic Benefits
• Supply of raw materials needed for construction.
• Mined substances are used to build houses and
make computers and satellites.
Disadvantages of Mining
• Mining has an effect on the quality of the air.

• Cause acid rains and smog.

• Waste from mining can spill into seas and lakes thus killing
nearby marine life.
Disadvantages of Mining
• Mining activities might as well lead to erosion which is
dangerous for the land.

• Discharged toxins can disrupt the way animals live.

• Mining also destroys animal habitats and ecosystems.

Disadvantages of Mining
• Siltation or land runoff is one of the gravest threats to
corals, according to studies. Fine silt clouds ocean water,
reducing the amount of light that reaches corals.

• Without enough light, the algae in corals are not able to

photosynthesize. This cuts the coral’s supply of nutrients
which eventually leads to coral death.
ANTHROPOCENTRIC APPROACH
TOWARDS THIS ISSUE
• During the modern era
and up to the present,
science dominated the
landscape: we
discovered that we
have the ability to
control and tame nature
to meet our desires.
ANTHROPOCENTRIC APPROACH
TOWARDS THIS ISSUE

This however led to the

unabated destruction of
the natural world to
meet our unquenchable
needs.
THEOCENTRIC APPROACH TO
RESOLVE THIS ISSUE
We are God’s co-creators
and stewards of the rest of
creation, given the authority
to responsibly use creation
for their needs and, at the
same time, the responsibility
to take good care of them for
the generations to come.
