vegetation consisting of typically short plants with long, narrow

leaves, growing wild or cultivated on lawns and pasture, and as a
fodder crop.

2
BERMUDA GRASS
Growth begins at temperatures above 15 °C (59 °F) with
optimum growth between 24 and 37 °C (75 and 99 °F); in
DESCRIPTION winter, the grass becomes dormant and turns brown.
Growth is promoted by full sun and retarded by full shade,
e.g., close to tree trunks.

The blades are a grey-green colour and are short,

usually 2–15 cm (0.79–5.91 in) long with
DIMENSION
rough edges.[5] The erect stems can
grow 1–30 cm (0.39–11.81 in) tall.
The stems are slightly flattened,
often tinged purple in colour0

• Leaves are narrow lanceolate, flat and thin, glabrous, 8
DIMENSION to 20 centimeters long, 5 to 15 millimeters wide.
• Spikes are two, terminal, slender
and 6 to 12 centimeters long.

CARPET GRASS: BLUEGRASS

or ‘sod’, forms a valuable pasture plant, characteristic of

parks and gardens.

• 30–70 centimetres (12–28 in) tall

• The leaves have boat-shaped tips,
DIMENSION • narrowly linear, up to 20 centimetres
(8 in) long and 3–5 millimetres (0.12–0.20
in) broad
• smooth or slightly roughened, with
a rounded to truncate ligule 1–2
millimetres (0.039–0.079 in) long.

ZOYSIA GRASS
They are used on golf courses to create fairways
USES  and teeing areas. Zoysia grasses stop erosion on
slopes, and are excellent at repelling weeds
throughout the year.

Because they can tolerate wide variations in temperature,

DESCRIPTION sunlight, and water, zoysia are widely used
for lawns in temperate climates.

Tail Hyacinth FERN

A hanging basket is a suspended container used for growing

decorative plants. Typically they are hung from buildings, where
garden space is at a premium, and from street furniture for
environmental enhancement. They may also be suspended from free
standing frames sometimes called hanging basket trees.
7
PEPEROMIA
Though varying considerably in appearance (see gallery
below), these species generally have thick, stout stems
DESCRIPTION and fleshy leaves, sometimes with epidermal windows.
Peperomia flowers typically come in yellow to brown
conical spikes.

• They are compact and usually do not exceed 12 inches

(30 cm) in height.
DIMENSION • he leaves are smooth and fleshy
and may be oval with the leafstalk
at or near the center of the leaf
blade, or they may be heart-
shaped or lance-shaped; their
size may vary from 1–4 inches
(2.5–10.2 cm) long.

STRING OF HEARTS (ROSARY VINE)

The roots, and occasionally the stems, will often develop

DESCRIPTION tubers. On the stems these form at nodes and are likely the
reason for the common name of rosary vine.

• It is an evergreen succulent trailing vine that grows to

10 centimetres (3.9 in) in height
DIMENSION • spreads to reach up to 2–4 metres
(6 ft 7 in–13 ft 1 in) in length. Its
leaves are shaped like hearts,
about 1–2 cm wide and long.

BOSTON FERN
The Boston fern likes damp, but not soggy soil that is rich
DESCRIPTION in nutrients. Of the common cultivated ferns, It is the most
tolerant to drought.

• 50–250 centimetres (20–98 in) long and 6–15 centimetres

(2.4–5.9 in) broad, with alternate pinnae
the small "leaflets" on either side of
the midrib), each pinna being
DIMENSION 2–8 centimetres (0.79–3.15 in)
long.
• it can reach as high as 40–90
centimetres (16–35 in), and in
extreme cases up to

DIMENSION
and up to 0.4 inch (1 cm) in diameter.
