In this film, they were top actors but
actors that are not known on a wide
scale. For example Noah Taylor is in
Charlie and the chocolate factory and
Lara croft tom raider. This shows that
he has been in big films but not
played big roles, therefore he will be
recognisable to some of the
audience. Sally Hawkins was also in
the film and had previously been in
layer cake, all or nothing and made in
Dagenham. In these programmes she
played roles that were quite
important, which means she’ll be
noticeable to the audience. Craig
Roberts was another actor in this
film who would have been
recognisable from his roles in Tracey
Beaker, skins and young Dracula. This
means that he’ll bring a bigger
audience from being in shows like
this as the audience will want to see
the actor again.
The camera used to film was the Arriflex 35-IIC which is a
perfect production motion picture camera. The mirror shutter
allows the camera operator to see a viewfinder image equal to
the recorded picture, although there is noticeable image
flicker in the viewfinder when the camera is running, caused
by the two open exposure segments of the mirror shutter. It is
still used extensively in motion pictures for sequences without
synchronous sound and has its own unique camera motion.
This camera costs between £1,500- £2,000. This is a good price
for a camera when making a small scale movie. The reason
they have not spent lots of money on the camera is because
that would’ve taken up lots of the budget which is needed for
other important things.
The film was given a budget of £1.5 million
and was set a target to be finished in 60 days.
However, this was not done as it took 65 days
to complete the film. The film was also over
budget by around £200,000. because the film
had extra days and money spent on
completing the film, this could have meant
why the film was so much better and got such
a big profit intake. This could have also been
so the films plot line looks more realistic and
believable.

The film was produced by the Weinstein company,
which presents the warp company and film4. the film
was then released in September 2010 in Toronto, but
was delayed a year in the UK and was released on the
18th march 2011. Once the film was released, it was
then distributed. By many companies such as, KOOL
Filmdistribution in Germany, Mars Distribution in
France and Optimum Releasing in the UK. Because the
Weinstein company is a big company, they were able
to easily get their product around the world by using
their contacts to sell the film.
The director of the film was Richard Ayode who is
known more for his comedy than film directing, but
had directed a couple of other shows before (Artic
monkeys at the Apollo and AD/BC: A rock opera).
However, submarine was the first film he had directed
and was also the film that made him the most money
and made himself recognisable to the world as a film
director.
Because he is a well known comedian, this may have
brought a bigger audience to come and watch the film
because they may think the film was going to be funny,
entertaining and amusing just like if they were going to
see him performing at a show.
The location that the movie was filmed in was
Wales. This is mainly because the film is about
a welsh teenage boy, which means it makes it
realistic and believable to film in Wales.
Another reason they stuck to one country to
film the movie was because the budget was
not very big, therefore they did not want to
waste the budget by going to exotic places
that look unrealistic. When filming, they only
stuck to five locations. These were: Swansea,
Brecon Beacons National Park, vale of
Glamorgan, Cardiff and Bishop Gore school in
Swansea. With the range of locations used in
Wales, this would’ve meant that the film
would have became popular to the local
communities which meant that they would
want to watch the film when it came out.
The transportation would have been taken
into consideration for the budget, however
because there was not many locations, there
was not a lot of the money spent on a
transportation company. The accommodation
would have also been taken into
consideration as they would have needed
places for the actors/actresses to stay. To
book accommodations, they used access
bookings.

This film has done well because it is a quality horror that
looks realistic and believable.
Some of the cast that featured in the film are top
actors. These actors are Roy Scheider who has
been in “the French connection”, “the seven
ups” and “klute”. This means he would have
been a good choice because he has been in a
range of different films and can attract a
audience that are familiar with his films. Robert
Shaw had been in “from Russia with love”,
“battle of the bulge” and “battle of Britain”. Once
again these are all popular films, therefore his
face will be recognisable to the audience and will
bring a bigger audience to the film as they will
want to see the actor. Richard Dreyfruss has
been in “American graffiti”, “the young
runaways” and “Dillinger” and may also attract
an audience.
These actors, despite them being in many films
previously, the films they have been in aren’t
massively well known blockbusters. This may
have been why the film was so successful as it
was more believable and relatable for the
audience, making the film scarier.
The camera they used in jaws was a Panavision Panaflex. This
camera has an average cost of £27,262. however you cannot buy
these cameras, therefore they would have been rented out for
the making of this film. Panavision has been a manufacturer of
cameras for the motion picture industry since the 1950s,
beginning with widescreen lenses. The lightweight Panaflex is
credited with developing filmmaking. Other influential cameras
that were used in the making of the film was the Millennium XL
and the digital video Genesis. This would have been a good
camera to use as it is made for film making. It is also a good
camera because it is a high quality camera with a widescreen lens

in spectre. Previously he had been in Django,
the green hornet and Berlin blues. As he is a
foreign actor and there are not many
German/Austrian actors who are in
blockbuster this means he would bring a wider
scale of an audience because he would be
even more popular in his home country.
However he has been in many big blockbuster
films before, therefore he would already be
popular and have a big audience. Léa Seydoux
was also a top actress in spectre and has
featured in many other blockbusters before
including inglorious basterd, beauty and the
beats and robin hood. However these actors
would have come at a cost as Daniel Craig
alone received £18million for his role
The camera that was used to film spectre was Arriflex
235. This would have been around £30,000 for the
camera which is expensive for a camera however they
need to make sure that the film is filmed with good
quality camera too make the picture look a good standard
and to make it a clear picture. Because it is a heavyweight
camera weighing 10kg , they would have had to use a
dolly to move the camera and make sure the focus was on
point. This is also a good camera to film action movies
with because it can move at high speeds without losing

The budget for spectre was a massive
$245,000,000 and was expected to take seven
months to film. However, this was not the case
as it took an extra four months and they still
managed to stay inside the budget when filming
this. Putting an extra four months work into the
film, shows that they wanted to make sure the
film was perfect and ready for the premiere as
they wanted it to be the best James Bond film.
Spectre was distributed by Columbia pictures
and was released on 26 October 2015. after it
was released, the film was then distributed to
many other companies. Such as, Sony pictures
all around the world, 20th century fox and
MGM home entertainment. Columbia pictures
is such a big company and has so many
contacts therefore they can get their film to
many other smaller companies quicker to sell
the film. . This could be why the film got so
much gross profit as many audiences can
watch it internationally and still understand it.

is a well known film maker as he has made
many other blockbuster movies including
Skyfall, American beauty and road to perdition
and Skyfall which made him the greatest profit
and made his popularity grow. Because of his
previous success and his popularity around the
world, this is the reason why he got such big
companies distributing spectre because they
know it would have a lot of success and make
them lots of money. Another reason it done so
well is because it won two awards empire
award for best thriller and empire award for
best British film.
Spectre was filmed in many different locations
and countries including England, Mexico,
Morocco and Italy. This meant that this would
have eaten into the budget as there was a lot of
travelling. The reason they would have done
this is to add to the wow factor as it is an action
film. As it is an action film it also adds realism
that agents travel a lot and go to exotic places.
Because it is a Hollywood film, they need to
include more locations to add success. The
range of locations would have added to the
films success because people would believe the
film more.
