CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION

This chapter introduces the

background of the study, statement of
the problem, theoretical framework,
conceptual framework,the significance
of the study, scope and limitation and
definition of terms.
1.1 BACKROUND OF THE STUDY
English is a global language, it is our primary source of
communication. A powerful language tool in different aspects of
communication. English is not for a specific society or group of people, it
is for everyone. In our present day, English become a language of
power and influence. Different countries all over the world have
acknowledged the English language as part of their culture. Some
schools in non-English countries now require learning English as part of
their educational curriculum because they do believe that English
language helps the student in their future. It increases the chances of
getting good job within the home country or work abroad.
Researchers conduct this study to find out if using English
language will be beneficial to their academics when they use English
language to understand their subject areas. To encourage students to
value English language in their study also to elaborate to the teachers
that nowadays English language is more useful and popular to the
students.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine the benefits of
using the English language in the studies of Grade 11
Students in AMA Learning Computer Center Antipolo
(ACLC)
Thus, this study will answer the following
question.
1. What is the profile of the participants in terms of
name:
a. Gender
b. Track
c. Language/Dialect spoken or written
2. What are the macro skills that can be developed in
using the English Language?
3. What are the benefits of using the English Language
in the studies?
1.3 THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This study was based to the theory that Chomsky
proposed, it is called Nativist or Innatist Perspective. The
children are born with the ability to learn language . Chomsky
thought that human has something called a language
acquisition device (LAD) in their brains that allowed them to
learn. The language acquisition device (LAD) enables the
person to pick up on and to understand those types of words
and their organization within the sentence for any language
This theory is related to the present study since the goal of
the researchers is to know the benefits of using English language
in their studies. As is it stated that the we have the ability to learn
you just need to know how you’ll use it and how you will able to
understand it, some students are struggling on building their
proper grammar, that is why teaching English is one of the major
subjects in primary and secondary school, but still some senior
high school students are considering English hard. That is why
using English should help them to improve their skills in English .

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to
broaden the understanding of
researchers and even the respondents
to determine the importance of English
Language. In the present and in the
future.
Likewise, this study has a greater
significance to the teachers , students
and future researchers.
1.6 SCOPE AND DELIMINATION OF THE STUDY
This study of Benefits of using the English
Language in the Studies of Grade 11 students in
AMA Learning Computer Center Antipolo
(ACLC) is restricted to AMA Computer Learning
Center Antipolo students only.
Students will be covered as part of the
respondents .The study will be disseminated
through semi structured interview to the
Respondents within the Campus. And that case
the researchers will know the qualitative results of
the study.
CHAPTER two
2.0 Foreign Literature
As cited by Darus (2010), Mahatir Mohamad
said “Learning English to acquire knowledge, not
to learn English, but Science has got a special
English language for itself.” There are technical
words for every subject that are probably not
found in the English language textbook. With
using English language as Medium Of Instruction,
student will gains two advantages simultaneously.
They are not only obtain knowledge but also can
improve their skills in English especially in writing.
Many people sharpen their higher skill in writing by
following the structures from the passages that
read from the book or any other media.
Therefore, when the learner are imposed to learn
Science and Mathematics in English,
automatically they master a lot of structures
which develop their competence in English.
Academic English (AE) refers to the language
used in school to help students acquire and use
knowledge. This article reviews current literature aims
to show what are the benefits of using English
language with their sense of communicating and
studying. It describes how Academic English is
conceptualized in the education research literature,
how using English language in everyday life will
benefit the students and teachers, it also aims to
realized the instructional practices, and the
implications of these conceptualizations for the
student's education and professional development.
The student population that is the primary focus of the
article is English language learners, but the findings
have implications for all students who struggle with
learning English Language. The article raises critical
challenges in defining and seeing the benefits of using
English Language for instruction and communication.
Hana LaRock (2014) said, Foreign it’s easy to
know the benefits of English language.so if you
understand or can use a bit of it you will be able to
communicate in different ways like at school, work,
travel or social media. English speaking for school A lot
of student around the world should learn English
speaking as their second language it shall help
students to get more opportunities while as they are
growing older and it’s major benefits is to opens up
more doors for those people whose speaking English
Language. and they can easily understand some of
their lessons at school English speaking for work They
can find a better job in another country and can give
them more opportunities to work in abroad English for
travel Having ability to communicate in other
countries.
2.1 Local Literature
Racca. R. M. and Lasaten. R. C.(2016) said, Educators agree
that proficiency in the English language is the basis for success in
academic pursuits. Reading, writing, communicating and working with
numbers or computers are tasks that are based on language skills
because it describes this how people can cope up on using English
Language with their everyday lives. Indeed, language proficiency is a
key to academic performance. A person who does not know English, for
instance, may not have access to the world’s known scientific and
technological discoveries and different issues that is happening around
the world.
This simply means that Students must be vulnerable in using and
understanding English language for a better grasp of knowledge in
Technology, Communicating and Studying. As claim, language
proficiency in English is significantly related to academic performance.
Academic subjects like Science, Mathematics and English often
requires the use of language functions. The language functions play a
significant role in critical and analytical thinking required in different
subjects. The more language functions with which students are adept,
the more effective their thinking can be. Thus, the more the students
are proficient with the English language, the more they are likely to
perform well in their academic subjects. Philippines is no longer the top
one in using English language that is why Department of Education
intensify the effort of providing an educational system that will improve
student’s mastery in English.
According to Dahlia Romero Domingo(2016), The rate of
students who get low grades in the content areas is alarming,
particularly in the subjects of Sciences and Mathematics. Among
the different factors affecting level of achievements as
considered by several studies, is the Language factor. The
teaching of subjects in the content area in Philippine schools uses
English as a Second Language (ESL), wherein a certain mastery
of the English language has to precede, to understanding more
of the subject. It is of great importance for teachers to evaluate
the methods and techniques used in the process of teaching
their subjects in order to raise level of performances of the
students.
This mini research aims to see the result of an evaluation
of a classroom instruction while using monolingual instruction in
ESL, or L2 that is English instruction, as compared with the use of
bilingual instruction, in this case Filipino (the native language in
the Philippines) and English combination. It is the hope of the
researcher that the information gathered from this endeavor shall
provide an insight for language educators and mathematics
teachers to join forces in developing students’ linguistic, verbal,
and logical-mathematical intelligences.
2.3 Foreign Related Studies
Elsevier B.V., (2017) stated that English is
commonly used as a medium of communication for
various purposes in addition to other major foreign
languages. In the academic sphere, it is not only a
disciplinary subject at different educational levels, but
a lingua franca to achieve academic goals, since
literature and teaching materials are written in
this language . For non-English speakers, speaking and
using English requires individuals to learn it in formal
or non-formal education settings.
Thus, this study related to our topic entitled
Benefits of using English Language in the Studies of
Grade 11 at AMA Computer Learning Center -
Antipolo in terms of the importance of English
language so a person need to learn it formal or in
formal education setting and to achieve academic
goals.
2.4 Local Related Studies
Del Pillar (2004) identified beginning students attributions
about their oral communication anxieties. A total of 250 students
were included in the study. Result revealed an eight factor
model explaining 69.11% of the total variance in the data. The
factors are expectation, training and experience, audience, self-
worth, rejection, and unpleasant experience because students
who are already trained in oral communication or English
language will facilitate their communication abroad especially
when they travel abroad they can use it because it is the
universal language. But for us here in the Philippines it is only the
second language because our first language is Filipino.
The Philippines was once hailed as the third largest
country with the most number of people speaking the
English language. Just Recently on April 26, 2012 GMA 7 reported
that the Philippines topped the survey among countries that
used business English very well. With a rating of 7.11 from the
scale of 0-10, the Philippines garnered the highest scored
followed by European countries with the US outside the top ten.
In Asia, only India came close at number 6. It was an Important
breakthrough because, as almost everybody knows , English
is considered as the lingua franca or of the world. It might not
be the most popular language internationally, but English is still
highly esteemed as the official language in business, politics,
and education. (Adanza, 2004).

3.0 Research Methodology
The researchers used descriptive design
to describe the information they got from
their participants. A survey was conducted by
interviewing . The participants who were
asked to evaluate the benefits of English
Language in terms of vocabulary, reading
skills, communication skills during the survey
were randomly selected from identified
participants.
3.1 Subject of Participants
Due to a large number of students that may
become possible participants, the researches got
50 respondents from the students of seven
sections of ICT Grade 11 and seven sections of
Grade 11 ABM students.
3.2 Sampling Technique
This study used convenience sampling. The
researchers find participants who are easily
accessible and convenient to answer the
interview. Researchers took notes of the response
from the participants and the results was then
interpreted
3.3 Research Instrument
The study used a semi-structured interview to
evaluate the benefits of English Language in the
studies of Grade 11 students in terms of vocabulary,
reading skills. First part of the interview is about the
profile of the participants and the second part of the
study was to determine if English Language have
given great effectiveness not only in academic but in
communication skills too.
3.4 Data Gathering Procedure
In gathering data first the researchers made a
questions that with the help of their instructor. After the
questionnaire was finalized, the researchers then
proceeded to rooms of Grade 11 and interview the
participants during their vacant time. Data gathered
from the interview were collected and classified
accordingly. And finally made an analysis and
interpretation.
3.5 Statistical Treatment
To determine the percentage of the data
gathered, the following formula was adopted:

_____ f ____ x 100

Total number of participants

where :
frequency (f) – no. of participants
total number of participants – 50
