In Christianity, worship is the act of attributing
reverent honor and homage to God. In the New
Testament, various words are used to refer to the term worship. One is proskuneo ("to worship") which means to bow down to God or kings. What is Observances? The action or practice of fulfilling or respecting the requirements of law, morality, or ritual. Hindu worship is primarily an individual act rather than a communal one, as it involves making personal offerings to the deity. Worshippers repeat the names of their favourite gods and goddesses, and repeat mantras. Water, fruit, flowers and incense are offered to God. Hindus usually perform worship in temples or at home to achieve some specific end or to integrate the body, the mind, spirit and also to live a pure life in order to help the performer reincarnate into a higher being. At the shrine, Hindus make offerings to a murti. A murti is a sacred stautue of God, or a god or goddess. The Hindu building for communal worship is called Mandir (Hindu Temple). The temples are dedicated to different gods and are the focus of religious life. Diwali Festival of Lights is a major holiday that is also celebrated by Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs. It extends over 5 days and celebrates the victory of good over evil. Some Jains may choose to fast for the two days of Divali. Dussehra also called Vijayadashami, in Hinduism, holiday marking the triumph of Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, over the 10-headed demon king Ravana, who abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. The festival’s name is derived from the Sanskrit words dasha (“ten”) and hara (“defeat”). Symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
