Overview
• EXPLAIN to the cistern owner how the disinfection will work
– Chlorine will disinfect water to reduce the chance of diarrhea
and other diseases
• Calculate volume of water in cistern
• Calculate volume of 1% mother solution required to treat water in
cistern
• Make a 1% mother solution
• Add correct amount of 1% mother solution to cistern
• Wait 30 minutes before drinking

• Chlorine product

• 20 liter bucket

• Measuring spoon ("Dose")

• Syringe

• Measuring cup

PREPARATION of 1% Solution
• Formula:
– Gramas/litro = [% diluida / % de concentracao] * 1000

– Ex: Gramas/litro = [1% / 55%] * 1000 = 18 gramas/litro

• 1 colher = 18 gramas
