MECHANISMS OF PERCEIVING SPACE

 To understand our relationship with nature, we need to explore how we become aware of it.
 For eg, we feel different spaces by seeing it and visual sensations are the most dominating aspect.
 But other sensations like smell, sound and even touch make us aware of the spaces.
PERCEPTION

 Perception is an active process through which we make sense of the world around us.
 It is more than just sensation.
 Perception is an integrated experience.
 The experience depends upon analysis by eye-brain system.
SCALE

 The term ‘scale’ used by architects are to define the effect of the building on us in terms of relative rather than
absolute size.
 The door above all speaks to us about scale.
 Next, we have the height between the floor and the ceiling giving us an idea about the scale.
 Windows, and specifically the heights of their sills.
COLOURS

 A space painted in red is comparatively small than that of blue.


 Warm colours demand more attention.
 It enhances performance.
