Case Presentation

Ng Rui Zhao
HOPI
•Ms Sharina, 49 Years old, Malay female currently admitted due to motor
vehicle injury .
•Patient has no any comorbid
•Patient presented 2 days ago after a fall due to crashing with wild boar
coming from right side, while riding motorcycle back to her house. She was
with her helmet on and the speed was around 50-60 km/hr. She halted in
emergency, her motor skidded and she fell to the ground on left side. She
fell on outstretched left hand. She ended up with some bruising and little
bleeding with pain on her left forearm.
• Otherwise, there were no head injury, no retrograde amnesia, no loss of
her consciousness, no ENT bleeding.
• She was able to ambulate
Mason classification
• type I: minimally displaced
fractures.
• type II: simple fractures with
some displacement or
angulation
• type III: comminuted or
displaced fractures
• type IV: associated elbow
dislocation (later addition to the
classification).
Diagnosis
• smith#: Closed fracture distal end of left radial bone
Management
• closed reduction and splint/cast immobilization for 6 weeks
• extra-articular
• < 5mm radial shortening
• dorsal angulation < 5° or within 20° of contralateral distal radius
