Mentorship for accountability of student leadership
Rationale: Emphasis of mentorship is on the responsibility
and answerability of elective student leaders to the students,
to their organization and to the University as a whole. Peer
mentors (who are elective officers themselves) remind
elected student leaders that their responsibility does not end
after their election but even becomes more significant once
they start their term of office where they have to be true to
what they have promised their constituents.
Delivery mode: orientation of those who will be running for
elective position by the outgoing officers
Mentorship for engagement and connection
Rationale: The main thrust of this mentoring is for the newcomers to know
the student government and the existing organizations in the University. This
is also the chance for the newly elected and appointed student leaders to
introduce the newcomers in the exciting but noble task of being of service to
fellow students. A very important part of this task is engaging the student
body in participating in the different activities of the organization where they
are members of and even inviting them to join non-academic organization
where their inclination or talent lies.
Delivery mode: orientation/ seminar with invited speakers who are graduate
student leaders. The latter can mentor and assist student leaders in goal-
setting and crafting workshops, seminars, community extensions and other
in-campus activities that are transformational in nature.
Mentorship for credible and meaningful student-based party system
Rationale: the existence of a party system in the campus is a reflection not of
divisiveness but of different views or perspectives in solving school problems. These
different paths in looking at student concerns and issues describes the youths’
uniqueness and the breadth and depth of how young people looked at how the
environment where they are intimately acquainted with should be run and managed. An
authentic campus-based party system illustrates opposition among the student
population premised on an acceptable ideology and legitimate approach grounded on
student experiences. However, this authenticity can be a reality only with the guidance
of peers who are objective and have gone through campus leadership and have seen
the existence or non-existence of campus party affiliation.
Delivery mode: orientation/ seminar of organizational student leaders towards forming an authentic
and true campus political party
