Matter

Definition of Matter

 Anything that has volume and mass is called matter.


 Matter is made up of atoms.
 There are three states of matter
1. solid
2. liquid
3. Gas
Solid

 They have definite shape and volume.


 There particles are closely packed together.
 They can only vibrate but cant move away from each other.
 E.g table, book, ice cube etc.
Liquid

 They have no definite shape but have definite volume.


 Thir particles are loosely packed.
 They can move around each other.
 Liquids can take shape of their containers.
 E.g water, juice, milk etc
Gas

 No definite shape and volume.


 Particles move freely around each other.
 Takes shapes of the container.
 E.g helium, oxygen etc
