About…..
-Born: February 20, 1961,on saaremma island in kuressare
-kahn’s jewish parents immigrated to the united states in
1906.
-kahn’s architecture notable for its simple piatonic forms
and compositions.
-kahn received the aia gold medal in 1971 and riba gold
medal in 1972.
-louis kahn is considered one of the foremost architects of
the late twentieth century.
-on march 17, 1974, he died of a heart attack in a men’s
restroom in Pennsylvania station in newyork city
Design Philosophy
-the union of form and design is realized in the final
product ,and the building’s symbolic meaning is once
unmeasurable.
-in his personal philosophy, form is conceived as formless
and unmeasurable.
-he used brick and concrete extensively.
Education
-he attended the university of pennslyvania and received his
bachelors degree in architecture at the age of 24.
-after college, he worked as a senior draftmen in a office of
Philadelphia city architect john molitor.
-to find the inspiration, he travelled through Europe visiting
castles and medieval strongholds in 1928, only 4 years after
graduating.
-While he still designed and worked as a design critic on the side
, louis became a professor of architecture at yale school of
architecture.

Use of steel frames

The older Tuscan Romanesque

Ceiling has an effect on the light inside the
galleries, lighting different sides and creating
different textures at different time of the day.
The inner courtyards and upper galleries are
naturally lit from a system of gridded skylights

The circular stair silo that vertically


penetrates through the sedated floor levels
of the yale art gallery.
Entering the stair from the upper floor, stair
runs plunge vertically into ravishing special
depth.
