IMPORTANCE OF IR
 Uninterrupted production
It ensures continuity of production. This means,
continuous employment for all employees who contribute
to production process, i.e., from chief executive officer to
floor workers to pantry boy.

 Reduction in Industrial Disputes


Good industrial relations reduce the industrial disputes.
Disputes are reflections of the failure of basic human urges
or motivations to secure adequate satisfaction or
expression which are fully cured by good industrial
relations.

 High morale
Good industrial relations improve the morale of the
employees. Employees work with great zeal with the feeling
in mind that the interest of employer and employees is one
and the same, i.e. to increase production.
 Reduced Wastage
Good industrial relations are maintained on the
basis of cooperation and recognition of each other.
It will help increase production. Wastages of man,
material and machines are reduced to the minimum
and thus national interest is protected.

 Mental Revolution
One of the main objects of industrial relation is a
complete mental revolution of workers and
employees. The industrial peace lies ultimately in a
transformed outlook on the part of both.
Role of an Industrial
Relation Officer
 Advise on the operation of industrial awards and agreements .

 Undertake negotiations on rates of pay and conditions of


employment for employees and employers

 Develop and administer policies on different employee


classifications, wage structures and related matters

 Maintain good relationships between employers and


employees

 Examine and attempt to resolve industrial disputes and


grievances in the workplace

 Study and interpret relevant industrial legislation.
