-developed in England. However, the first
authoritative knowledge of the earliest ballroom
dances was recorded in the 16th century in
France. The term 'ballroom dancing' is derived
from the word ball. Ball originated from the Latin
word 'ballade', which means to dance
Viennese Waltz
-a waltz characterized by a slight anticipation of the
second beat of the bar and having a romantic quality.
What is the difference between a waltz and a Viennese
Waltz?
-The main difference between Slow Waltz and Viennese
Waltz is speed. Footwork and patterns are also different,
but the main difference is speed. Viennese Waltz can be
up to four times faster than the slow version. A true
Viennese waltz consists only of turns - that is why it is also
known as the Rotary Waltz.
What is Viennese Waltz dance?
-The Viennese waltz, so called to distinguish it from the
waltz and the French waltz, is the oldest of the current
ballroom dances. It emerged in the second half of the
18th century from the German dance and the Ländler in
Austria and was both popular and subject to criticism.
Who composed the Viennese Waltz?
-Johann Strauss II. Two composers in Vienna who
became well known for their waltzes were Joseph
Lanner (1801–1843) and Johann Strauss (1804–1849), but
the most famous of all was one of Strauss's sons, also
called Johann. Father and son are sometimes called
Johann Strauss I and Johann Strauss II.
