An ideal gas exhibits a linear relationship between any two of the four
variables. In this lab, the relationship between the pressure and the
volume will be examined. In order to see this relationship, the other two
variables (n and T) must be held constant. A syringe will be used to
measure the volume of a sample of air and the pressure will be
measured with a computer based pressure sensor. The pressure of the
air will be measured as the volume of the air is decreased. The pressure
and volume data will then be graphed so that it fits a linear equation. In
this manner, the relationship between the pressure and the volume of a
gas can be determined.
