Rizal as a Propagandist

Rizal became a leader of the reformist
movement called aimed at propaganda,
an unwavering campaign for political
and social freedoms, lobbying the
peninsular government, using their
connections with the liberal Spanish
politicians.
What is a propaganda?

biased or misleading nature)
used to promote or publicize
a particular political cause or
point of view.
Rizal as a Propagandist

 He wrote unceasingly for the La Solidaridad, mouthpiece of
the Propaganda, hoping as did his fellow Propagandists that
the pleas of the Filipinos would be heard.
 He also produced the two novels that he hoped would
succeed in achieving his goals where all other means had
failed, but which ultimately led to his death.
Noli and El Fili

 Both aimed at exposing the socio-political issues in
the country and in raising political consciousness
among the Filipino people.
 The Filipinos were prohibited by the Spaniards to
read Noli and El Fili.
 The Spaniards convicted Rizal of sedition or the
conduct/speech inciting people to rebel against the
authority of a state or monarch.
