    Key Design

    Design of Kennedy Key


    • Kennedy key consists of 2 square keys.
    • It is used for heavy duty applications.
    • Analysis is based on the two criteria:-
    (1) Failure due to shear stress
    (2) Failure due to compressive stress
    Splines

    Splines are keys which are made integral with the shaft.
    They are used when there is a relative axial motion between the
    shaft and the hub.
    Application:- Gear shifting mechanism in automobile gearbox.
