– CLL is developed by Charles A. Curran and his


associates in Chicago.

– Using psychological counseling techniques to


learning and it is known as counseling learning.
 About Community Language Learning.

Defintion : Community Language Learning is an approach in which students work together to


develop.
– CLL redefines the roles of teacher and learner.
Teacher as counselor and Student as Client.
– CLL is also the example of humanistic approach.
– Students are permitted to use their native language.
– Grammar and vocabulary are taught inductively.
– CLL is a good method for the beginners of ESL users.
– Theory of Language
Language as a social process or language is for communication.

CLL doesn’t use a convetional language syllabus.

Procedure

– Consist of 6 up to 12 students sitting in a circle


– Students have visual contact with each other.
– Teacher is out of the circle.
– Teacher walks behind the students to provide assistance.
Activities of the class :

– the students introduce themselves to each other in L1.


– the teacher explains the goals and activities of the course.
students think about the process and they are asked to express, their feelings about the experience.
– the instructor chooses some sentences from the recorded material and writes them

– on the board to discuss the elements of grammar , spelling , and capitalization .


students are encouraged to ask questions .

students are encouraged to copy sentences from the board with notes on meaning and usage .
Advantages

– Works well with lower levels students who are struggling in spoken english .
– Lower students’ anxiety and overcome threatening affective filter.
– It creates a warm , sympathetic and trusting relationship between teacher and
learners .
– Counselor allow the learners to determune type of conversation .
– Train students to become independent .
DISADVANTAGES :

– Some learners find it difficult to speak on tape .


– In order for students to became independent , teacher might neglect the need
for guidance .
– Teacher has to be highly proficient the target language and in the language of
students .
– Translation is an intricate and difficult task . The success of this method relies
largely on the counselor’s translation .
– It is time consuming to carry out .
