WHO CHILDREN ARE
◦ Children is a unique creature

◦ Children is immature and irresponsible person

◦ Parents play an important role to introduce what the world is

◦ parents introduce the children some simple words, phrases, and sentences and this
kinds of introductions will occur for several years and in different stages
CHILDREN LANGUAGE
DEVELOPMENT
◦ It is related with the way of children speaking

◦ Early childhood has different development stage with late childhood development

◦ They will know what should be talked with children

◦ Parents know what kind of activities which can stimulate children’s speaking ability

◦ They will play or buy toys and books that appropriate with the children’s development.
EARLY CHILDHOOD
◦ Children ages 2-4 years have a special development
◦ Professor Leslie Recorla explained that children with age 18-36 months can
produce 150 words
◦ The other abilities for children aged 2-3 years old are children can utter simple
sentence consisted 2 until 3 words
◦ The sentence pattern is subject and verb for example in Bahasa Indonesia, “adek
minum”, “itu meong”, “mama sini“.
◦ Children can follow simple instructions
◦ Children understand simple gesture such as nodding
EARLY CHILDHOOD
◦ Children aged 4 to 5 years old, they can utters more words
◦ They produce 4.000-6.000 words and they can say 3 to 5 words in a sentence, for
example “aku mau yang biru” and “aku udah makan”.
◦ They can use subject pronoun in the sentence
◦ They can follow more complicated instructions, for example “pakai sepatu, ambil
tas, lalu berangkat”.
◦ They want to explore their environment by asking about living things
◦ They learn about politeness from their parents and surroundings
◦ They can retell their experiences more logical and organized
LATE CHILDHOOD
◦ Children at the age 6 years old produce more than 5000 words

◦ the vocabularies will be increased at the age of 11-12 years old

◦ seeing that one vocabulary has more than one meaning

◦ children can understand jokes and develop their sense of humor

◦ The children do not need many repetition to do the instruction
