PLASTIC
and

“from Pollution to Solution”

www.Ecobricks.org
What is Plastic?

www.Ecobricks.org
Plastic is any synthetic or semisynthetic
organic polymer.
chains of molecules linked together
• Many plastics begin with “poly” such as
polyethylene, polystyrene , etc.
• Mostly made of Carbon and Hydrogen.

www.Ecobricks.org
Plastics don't biodegrade,
they photodegrade.
means that plastics left for years in fields or
water will slowly break into smaller pieces.

www.Ecobricks.org
Plastics are made from petro-chemicals.
 Petrochemicals are organic chemicals made from crude oil
and natural gas for use in industrial processes.
 Examples of primary petrochemicals include methanol,
ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene, toluene and
xylene. Roughly five percent of the world's annual oil supply
is utilized to make petrochemicals.
• These chemicals don’t fit back into the ecologies around us.
• Scientific studies show that these chemicals are toxic to
humans. www.Ecobricks.org
When do we use Plastic

Why Plastic

www.Ecobricks.org
Lightweight Versatile
Cheap Odorless
Durable Non-conductive
Recyclable Transparent

There is a plastic suitable for almost

any application.

Where does our plastic go?
We throw them away!

Where is ‘Away’ Anyway?

Where do the things that we throw ‘away’ go?

 The lower the grade, the less the
value. The less the value, the
less likely it is to be recycled
again.
