What is diversity?
It is a state or fact of being diverse or
different, a variety of opinions.
The concept of diversity encompasses
acceptance and respect. It means
understanding that each individual is
unique, and recognizing our individual
differences. These can be along the
dimensions of race, gender, sexual
orientation, age, physical abilities/ skill,
religious beliefs.
 Itis the exploration of these
differences in a safe, positive, and
nurturing environment. It is about
understanding each other and moving
beyond simple tolerance to embracing
and celebrating the rich dimensions of
diversity contained within each
individual.
 “Diversity” means more than just
acknowledging and tolerating
differences. Diversity is a set of
conscious practices that involve:
 Understanding and appreciating
interdependence of humanity,
cultures and the natural environment.
 Practicing mutual respect for
qualities and experiences that are
different from our own.
 Understanding that diversity includes
not only ways of being but also ways
of knowing.
 Building alliances across differences
so that we can work together to
eradicate all forms of discrimination.

The period of emergence is the time of self-
discovery and growth among writers to create
a literature of nationalistic appeal through
English Language has been a trending literary
medium in these times. Aside from that,
writers played with different literary forms and
techniques and they are categorized into three
groups:
 Those concerned with social
consciousness
 Those works for the craftsmanship
 Those who were eager to explore local
color.
 The years 1935 to 1945 saw the Emergence of a significant
trend in Philippine Literature in English. Jose M. Hernandez
describes this period as a time of self-discovery and of
rapid growth.

1962) is a former NASA astronaut and
American engineer .
Hernández was assigned to the crew of

served as chief of the Materials and
Processes branch of Johnson Space
