We can classify the animal

kingdom in the most unique

classification.
All animals belong to
the animal kingdom
and are many –
celled. They get
their energy from
the food they eat,
and they reproduce.
they are only those that
have one major
characteristic for
example VERTEBRATES.
Members of this class
again have another
main characteristic in
common: animals
with fur
Another is the order
level. includes the red
squirrel, and every
other kind of rodent -
like mice, rats,
gophers and beavers.
We have cut out all
other types of
mammals - like bears,
rabbits, lions.
An order is made up of
smaller groups called
families. The family
Sciuridae includes the
red squirrel, and every
other kind of squirrel
like flying squirrels. We
have cut out all the
other types of rodents
like mice and rats.
The genus Sciurus is
made up of the tree
squirrels. It includes the
red squirrel, and the
other species like the
grey squirrel. We have
cut out all the other
types like ground
squirrels and flying
squirrels.
Sciurus vulgaris is in a
group on its own. Each
species name describes
just one animal. So
each animal gets its
scientific name from
the combination of its
genus name and its
species name.
