Horticulture is an art or
science that involves the
cultivating of fruits, vegetables,
flowers, or ornamental plants.
Horticulture is one of the
branches of Biology.

Botany is the study of


plants and plant processes.

Besides, Horticulture incorporates


Food Crops and Non-Food Crops.

to plants,which
provide food for
human consumption.

• Non Food Crops


refers to plants which are
grown for the purpose of
sales and profits and not
to be used as food by the
farmer.
HISTORY OF HORTICULTURE
• Horticulture coined by Peter Lauremberg during
17th Century representing the Cultivation of
crops and gardens.
• Horticulture first began in Egyptian temple

• Archeological evidence showed that
Egyptian garden contained a number of
garden elements that persisted until
modern time.
